The Somali Progressive Initiative

The Somali Progressive Initiative is a volunteer-based media project founded in 2021 by Ibrahim Sultan in Galkayo Somalia. It was created to amplify underrepresented voices in Somalia through independent storytelling focused on human rights, gender equality, Climate Change, and social justice.

Since its beginning, the initiative has produced video series, articles, and local events. It remains a small but determined effort to bring attention to people and issues often overlooked in Somali media.

Ibrahim Sultan is a Somali journalist, storyteller, and passionate advocate for social justice. He founded the Somali Progressive Initiative in 2021 to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and shed light on critical issues such as human rights, gender equality, and climate justice.

Based in Galkayo, Somalia, Ibrahim works independently and in collaboration with local and international media organizations. Through investigative reporting and community-centered storytelling, he uses media as a powerful tool to drive awareness, inspire dialogue, and push for meaningful change.
