WHO WE ARE

The Somali Progressive Initiative is a grassroots media platform driven by a deep commitment to social justice and community storytelling. Based in Galkayo, we operate independently, relying on volunteer energy and occasional collaboration with like-minded individuals.

Our strength lies in our authenticity — we are a small, locally rooted team with a bold vision: to shift narratives and amplify the stories of those often left unheard in Somali media.




WHAT WE DO

We harness the power of media to explore, expose, and elevate critical social issues affecting Somalia today. Through storytelling, analysis, and community engagement, we aim to inform and inspire change.

Our work includes:

1. Visual Storytelling
    – People’s Voice: Galkayo
    – Galkayo’s IDPs Stories
    – Inspiring Somali Women

2. Independent Journalism
    – Opinion pieces and in-depth articles exploring justice, identity, and social inequality.

3. Grassroots Action
    – Hosting awareness sessions and dialogue forums
    – Engaging in national journalism networks such as NUSOJ and MAP
